This course provides extensive practice in the preparation and welding of pipe in the 2G and 5G position, and information of preparation, methods of welding, and electrode and filler wires used.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Employ safety procedures in preparation of and welding of pipe. [c]
  2. Perform the proper technique for preparing the pipe for welding. [e,f]
  3. Tack pipe in 2G and 5G position. [e,f]
  4. Weld pipe in the 2G position with the stringer bead method. [e,f]
  5. Weld pipe in the 5G position with the stringer or weave bead method. [e,f]
  6. Prepare pipe for weld test. [e,f]
  7. Demonstrate ability to inspect weld joints before, during and after welding. [e,f]
  8. Demonstrate ability to read and interpret technical documents. [b,e]
  9. Demonstrate ability to use various types of software applicable to course. [a]
