Role of agriculture in U. S. food production, national trade, governmental policy, and cultural and economic diversity influence on agriculture; requires a supervised national field experience.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Describe production agriculture within the U.S.
- Explain the movement of agricultural products between states
- Explain government policy as it relates to the production and trade of agricultural products
- Develop cross-cultural awareness, enhance their ability to communicate, and interact in culturally diverse environments.
- An international field experience will be a primary component of the course. Expenses incurred for travel, lodging, and meals will be the responsibility of the student.
- Describe the current status of world agriculture.
- Recognize and describe the rationale for studying world agriculture.
- Describe the current grain and livestock production worldwide.
- Define the nature and extent of farming systems.
- Determine the purpose of international trade.
- List and describe the kinds and types of agricultural products traded.
- Identify the national benefits of world agricultural trade.
- Define the types of assistance and training programs utilized in world agriculture.
- Identify the reasons for technological change in agriculture.
