INDT 206 - Programmable Automation Controls II PREREQUISITES/COREQUISITE: INDT 205 - Programmable Automation Controls I .
PROGRAM: Industrial Technology CREDIT HOURS: 3 LECTURE HOURS: 2 LAB HOURS: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2020
Serves as a further introduction to the field of industrial controls. Students will learn the principles of control systems and how they are applied to a production system to achieve automation. Systems included in the courses are stepper motors, programmable logic controllers, microprocessors, computers and feedback systems. Emphasis is placed on programmable logic controllers and the local area network. This course will use lecture, lab, online simulation and programming to prepare students for C-208 Programmable Controller Troubleshooting 1 Certification through Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA).
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Interpret and create basic ladder logic diagrams. [f]
- Create PLC programs from line diagrams and schematics. [a,f]
- Assemble a basic PLC system from modular components. [a,e]
- Select and use subroutines and jump instructions appropriately. [a,e]
- Select and use data manipulation, math, logic, and transfer instructions appropriately. [a,e]
- Differentiate between analog and digital techniques. [e]
- Translate numerical values between several number base systems. [e]
- Specify and select appropriate input / output modules. [a,e]
- Install a programmable logic controller workstation. [a]
- Solve application problems using programmable logic controller processors. [e]
- Integrate programmable control devices with electromechanical devices to achieve control objectives. [a]
- Analyze and diagnose systems involving programmable controllers to determine fault areas. [a,b,e]
