Introduces the basic concepts of restructuring the manufacturing workplace and technological activity to incorporate environmental concerns. This course serves as an introduction to the basic principles of “green” manufacturing.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:

Define the role manufacturing plays in environmental ecology.

Describe the essential concepts of “green” manufacturing.

Explain how technological change presents risks to the environment.

Explain the importance of industrial ecology on personal, corporate, and community level.

Identify and apply the concepts of product and process design with environmental forethought.

Discuss the Product Life Cycle of manufactured goods.

Explain the characteristics of effective corporate strategies with respect to “green” manufacturing.

Define the role of government environmental regulation in the manufacturing workplace.

Explain the concept of waste stream mapping and apply it to common manufacturing activity.
