PHOT 104 - Photography I PROGRAM: Visual Communications CREDIT HOURS: 3 LECTURE HOURS: 2 LAB HOURS: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall 2020
Covers basic photographic theory and technique. Includes image capture, processing, various output methods and light. Study of cameras, lenses, exposure, characteristics of photographic media and output. Appropriate presentation, software options, and sequencing of imagery are stressed, along with historical examples that provide background for understanding the medium.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate an ability to operate a camera using manual controls.
- Measure incident and reflective light for a subject and determine the proper camera settings.
- Demonstrate printing equipment to produce properly exposed and processed prints.
- Learn and employ methods of image correction.
- Produce photographs which demonstrate an ability to control focus in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of depth of field.
- Demonstrate an understanding of capturing and freezing motion.
- Demonstrate an understanding of photographic composition and design.
- Produce photographs that exhibit conceptual thinking ability.
