Prepares students for the demands of reading in a variety of college-level courses through improved reading flexibility, vocabulary, and comprehension. Emphasizes critical reading strategies. Supplements and supports coursework delivered in ENGL 111 .

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

  1. Establish a systematic approaches to improve reading, vocabulary, and comprehension
  2. Develop critical reading and thinking skills
  3. Develop strategies for making independent critical evaluations of student and published texts, which demonstrates proficiency in reading, evaluating, analyzing, and using material collected from various types of sources.
  4. Develop an understanding of the role of audience and the rhetorical situation

GRADING POLICY
A course grade of C or higher is required for successful completion of ENGL 063. Students who do not meet this standard are encouraged to retake the placement exam. Ask for clarification because 111 requires a C or higher.
