Through various clinical sites the student will acquire competency in the field of Computed Tomography. During the clinical rotation, the student is required to use the knowledge acquired in the cognitive domain to display appropriate behavior in the affective domain and to build skills in the psychomotor domain. This is accomplished by scanning actual patients under controlled conditions.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Identify body planes and terminology and explain how they pertain to cross sectional anatomy.
- Perform patient and radiation safety.
- Identify safety precautions in pre-, intra, and post-procedures.
- Analyze cross sectional anatomy and structures in the topical areas of study. Perform procedures outlined in the course content.
- Contrast types of common pathologies associated with related anatomy.
- Analyze and evaluate the computed tomography image for quality and artifact.
- Demonstrate principles of professional ethics.
- Demonstrate successful relationships with staff technologists by asking appropriate questions, assisting the technologist during scanning, and by directly dealing with patients.
- React to criticism constructively and demonstrate the desire to improve.
- Demonstrate competency in a variety of exams including those not routinely conducted.
