CONT 102 - Construction Materials PROGRAM: Construction Technology CREDIT HOURS: 3 LECTURE HOURS: 3 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2014
Develops skills in identifying building materials commonly used in modern building construction. Provides experience in the application of locally accessible materials.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Explain existing site conditions and identify materials used for site preparation
- Identify concrete types, strengths, and slumps
- Identify various types of concrete and clay masonry
- Identify and list types of ferrous and non-ferrous metals
- Differentiate between types of woods, plastics and composites
- Outline the properties and uses of dimensional lumber and engineered lumber products
- Discuss the structural properties of wood as they relate to load bearing uses
- Name various materials used for thermal and moisture protection
- List types of windows and doors
- Identify modern interior finishes
- Think critically and independently analyze, synthesize, and evaluate technical problems and information.
- Identify and interpret health, safety, and welfare standards as dictated by local, state or federal agencies.
