CONT 279 - Construction Technology Capstone

Prepare the student for entry into construction. The course reviews the Construction Technology core courses. It provides a comprehensive evaluation of the level of proficiency of these courses.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Assist in identifying the career paths available to those with the program degree.
  2. Review history of building construction to present-day applications.
  3. Demonstrate the safe operation and maintenance various construction tools including the builder’s level and transit.
  4. Demonstrate skill in identifying building materials commonly used in modern building construction.
  5. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of working drawings and applications from the print to the work.
  6. Know basic electrical concepts including: AC and DC circuits, power, inductance, capacitance, transformers, and metering equipment.
  7. Demonstrate proficiency in the estimating process for residential construction, which includes blueprints and specifications, estimating labor costs, materials take-off and pricing.
  8. Review integrated computer technology, decision-making and problem-solving skills by using multimedia technology and peripherals. This includes software and computer programs and their applications.
  9. Effectively prepare for an interview including resume preparation, effective behavior during the interview, and how to answer questions in an interview.
  10. Take required outcomes assessment tests.
