Examines the role of law enforcement in traffic safety, traffic administration, traffic laws, accident investigation, police safety, and patrol practices.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Discuss the major causes of traffic collisions.
  2. Discuss traffic control in emergency situations.
  3. Detect problems with vehicle operation, both mechanical and operator.
  4. Discuss the driver’s license point system and the quota system.
  5. Identify emergency needs at accident scenes and implement proper procedures quickly.
  6. List specific rules that an officer should observe each time a vehicle is stopped.
  7. Discuss the rules and procedures of searching a suspect on a traffic stop.
  8. Discuss certain circumstances under which high-speed pursuits may be justified.
  9. List and discuss DUI indicators.
  10. Demonstrate common procedures involved in traffic accident investigation.
