A study of the grass species and cultural conditions that contribute to healthy lawns and athletic fields in the Midwest.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Identify major turf grass species and describe their advantages in turf applications.
- Identify the pests of lawns, athletic fields and golf courses and explain their control.
- Describe the soil and site conditions that promote healthy turf.
- Explain the major techniques involved in establishing turf.
- Explain the basic characteristics of irrigation systems and their use in turf maintenance.
- Demonstrate skills necessary to install and maintain turf in the landscape.
