MATH 200 - Statistics


PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or a grade of “C” or better in MATH 043 - Intermediate Algebra

Provides study in the collection, interpretation and presentation of descriptive and inferential statistics, including measures of central tendency, probability, binomial and normal distributions, hypothesis testing of one-and two-sample populations, confidence intervals, chi-square testing, correlation, data description and graphical representations. An introductory statistics course.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Determine measures of central tendency.
  2. Calculate standard deviation, z-scores, percentile ranks, and integrate the concepts.
  3. Determine the probability of an event.
  4. Use the binomial and normal distribution to determine probabilities.
  5. Approximate binomial distribution using normal distribution.
  6. Apply the rules of hypothesis testing for one and two sample populations.
  7. Determine confidence intervals.
  8. Determine correlation coefficients and predict using linear correlation.
  9. Describe data using graphical representation.
  10. Use chi-square testing.
  11. Use technology as appropriate to enhance course objectives.
