TRCK 100 - Diesel Preventative Maintenance PROGRAM: Automotive Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
Introduces the maintenance requirements and procedures of modern diesel engines and medium and heavy-duty trucks. Proper procedures and requirements for the Federal Highway Safety Inspection (DOT) will be discussed and practiced. In addition, this course will prepare students to take a nationally recognized certification exam.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Identify Proper shop safety practices while in the labs. (a,b,f)
- Identify tools, equipment, & fasteners used in truck repair. (b, f)
- Identify and explain how the truck repair industry is structured. (g, h, i)
- Identify and explain operation of the major systems of the trucks. (e)
- Identify and explain what EPA, CAFÉ, FMCSR, CDL, and NHTSA regulations are and how they affect the transportation industry. (f, g, h, i)
- Perform complete FMC annual inspection of tractors and trailers. (a,b,e,f,g,h,i)
- Examine maintenance requirements and procedures for heavy duty trucks. (a,b,e,f,g,h,i)
- Change oil and filters and lubricate the complete chassis. (a,b,e,f,g,h,i)
- Perform CDL pre-trip inspections. (a,b,e,f,g,h,i)
- Perform the CDL air brake leak down safety test and inspection. (a,b,e,f,g,h,i)
- Attain readiness and take SP/2 Mechanical Safety exam. (b, c)
- Attain readiness and take SP/2 Pollution Prevention exam. (b, c)
