TRCK 224 - HT Electrical Systems


PREREQUISITES: AUTI 111 - Electrical Systems I  or AUTC 113 Electrical and Electronics I.

Tractor and trailer wiring systems will be discussed along with proper diagnosis and repair procedures. Lighting and warning systems along with computerized engine controls will be examined. Dash switches, controls, and gauges will be studied along with factory wiring diagrams.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Demonstrate safe shop practices while working with electrical systems. (a)
  2. Identify the diagnostic equipment used for computer controlled truck and diesel systems. (b)
  3. Explain and diagnose advanced truck and diesel electrical system networks. (c,e,f,g,h,i)
  4. Utilize scan tools, lab scopes, and other electronic diagnostic equipment. (c,e,f,g,h,i)
  5. Identify and access engine computer control sensors and systems. (c,e,f,g,h,i)
  6. Identify and diagnose body computer systems. (c,e,f,g,h,i)
  7. Identify and diagnose anti-lock brake and traction control systems. (c,e,f,h,i)
  8. Identify and diagnose advanced active and passive restraint systems. (a,c,e,f,h,i)
  9. Identify and diagnose various electrical control systems. (c,e,f)
  10. Identify and diagnose multi-battery starting and charging systems. (a,b,c,e,f)
  11. Identify and diagnose warning indicator systems, lighting, and dash gauge systems. (c,e,f)
