CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Addresses the changing role of the accountant to information provider due to computerization and the availability of data. Uses the AMPS model (ask the question, master the data, perform the analysis, and share the story) to understand the data analytics process and to address accounting questions. Covers four types of analysis (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive) and how these four types of analysis are used to address accounting questions.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. Explain how data analytics is used to answer accounting questions.
2. Define big data and describe its characteristics.
3. Identify the differences between Excel and Tableau.
4. Describe the four types of accounting analytics (descriptive analytics, diagnostic analytics, predictive analytics, and summary of analysis).
5. Analyze data using descriptive analytics.
6. Create various types of charts for analysis using Excel, Tableau, and Power BI.
7. Apply the AMPS model:
