This course assists students in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to perform microbiology assays in a veterinary laboratory. This course covers learning about a variety of veterinary pathological genus and species of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. This course focuses on the various laboratory methods used in the identification of bacterial and fungal organisms.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to: 
1. Describe important features of bacteria, fungi, and viruses relevant to veterinary medicine.
2. Identify causative bacteria, fungi, and viruses and the veterinary diseases that they are associated with.
3. Demonstrate appropriate laboratory techniques used in the identification of bacterial and fungal organisms relevant to veterinary medicine.
4. Demonstrate safe handling and disposal of laboratory samples, supplies, and equipment.
