This course covers the methods of teaching agricultural education. Emphasis will be placed on an understanding and implementation of the comprehensive “three- circle” model that includes classroom instruction, experiential learning (Supervised Agricultural Experience), and leadership development (FFA).
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Create and implement an effective lesson plan over an agricultural topic.
- Participate in the implementation of an FFA event at some level (local through national).
- Analyze observations of agricultural instruction.
- Create a personal teaching philosophy statement.
- Explain the historical significance and implications of the Smith-Hughes Act.
- Apply the concepts of parliamentary procedure to effectively run a meeting.
- Utilize current state course standards and any existing Ivy Tech dual credit course objectives to create a course syllabus.
