This course will survey painting, sculpture, installations, performance art, design, and architecture created by artists from the Early Modern period to the present. Contemporary approaches to art will emphasized.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Identify the broad outlines of the history of art from medieval cultures to the start of the Modern period and their impact on Contemporary art and practice.
- Observe and comment upon the changing social roles of artists from the Modern period to the present.
- Employ appropriate vocabulary for discussing art forms, techniques, and movements.
- Identify and discuss the modern and contemporary artists’ relationship to politics, religion, and philosophy as explored within their art and practice.
- Develop and demonstrate descriptive and analytical skills in thinking and writing.
- Develop and demonstrate problem solving skills.
