CRIM 110 - Introduction to Law Enforcement

1. Discuss the history of policing.
2. Explain the role and function of policing in a democratic society as it pertains to the Constitution.
3. Develop a profile of the personality that is attracted to policing and identify characteristics essential to the profession. 
4. Demonstrate an understanding of the scope of administrative functions in a police department.
5. Discuss the various operations and duties involved in police work including, but not limited to, line and support functions, crime control strategies, search and seizure, arrest and interrogation.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of specialized expertise in policing, including mitigating stress and maintaining officer wellness. 
7. Discuss an officer’s role in the court system, including preparation, cooperation, and etiquette. 
8. Analyze and interpret use of force connected with the police profession. 
9. Interpret specific dynamics of police corruption and its impact on credibility.
10. Discuss the role and impact of the introduction of women and minorities into the police profession.
