DENT 171 - Dental Terminology

This is an in-depth course that focuses on basic terminology required of the dental professional and provides a basic knowledge of head and neck anatomy and physiology, pathology, special procedures, laboratory procedures, and pharmacology. Dental vocabulary foundation increases through study and application of medical terminology word elements.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate use of a dental dictionary.
- Properly use prefixes and suffixes with word roots/ combining forms to build medical/dental terms.
- Define dental terms.
- Define and use dental abbreviations, signs, and symbols accurately.
- Define common diseases, conditions, procedures, treatments, and diagnostic tests.
- Identify and correct misspelled dental terms.
- Spell dental words correctly after hearing pronunciation.
- Correctly enunciate dental terms.
