The purpose of this introductory course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the detailing skills commonly used by a drafting technician. Areas of study include: lettering, sketching, proper use of equipment, geometric constructions with emphasis on orthographic (multi-view) drawings that are dimensioned and noted to ANSI standards.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Sketch proportionately and recognizably a given object.
- Do vertical Gothic lettering to quality standards.
- Exhibit proper equipment usage.
- Demonstrate acceptable line work and construction techniques.
- Project and detail orthographic drawings to scale.
- Demonstrate effective understanding and usage of dimensions, symbols, and notations to ANSI standards.
- Show familiarity with conventional drafting practices.
- Use sectioning techniques to better illustrate complex detail drawings involving numerous hidden lines.
