Builds on the writing skills taught in English 111.
Requires students to prepare professional reports and correspondence for various purposes using standard research techniques, documentation, and formatting as appropriate. Learn to use a variety of formats, styles, and delivery systems to achieve the clear, concise communication required in a professional environment. May require students to demonstrate both written and oral competencies.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Draft and revise documents, graphics, and presentational materials to improve style, tone, and clarity.
- Collaborate with others to produce professional documents.
- Determine and apply the appropriate work-related format and delivery method depending on message, audience, purpose, cultural awareness, and/or rhetorical situation.
- Analyze and synthesize information and use effective information design to produce professional documents and graphics, and/or presentational media according to purpose, content, and audience.
- Edit for appropriate style, including using clear syntax, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
- Use American Psychological Association (APA) style to document sources, give attribution, and avoid plagiarism.
- Identify the importance of setting target dates and meeting deadlines in a professional environment.
