Co-ops and internships are periods of institutionally supervised, work experience for credit that supplements formal academic classwork. Students are employed by industry or government organizations in positions related to their major field of study. Unlike a typical part-time or summer job, an engineering co-op or internship must involve the practice of engineering and be on site at the employer’s facility (we do not allow remote co-ops or internships). Co-ops and internships are not required by the College, but they are highly encouraged.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The primary goal of the Internship Program is to allow Engineering Technology students to incorporate and emphasize the lessons learned in the classroom into a real-world experience set in a professional practice-oriented environment. The intern’s work will be overseen by a senior Engineer or Engineering Technologist. During this internship, you will:

  1. Be assigned challenging projects and tasks.
  2. Have broad exposure to the organization and organizational structure.
  3. Gain real-life and industry-related experience.
  4. Assist the organization in the application of the latest strategies and techniques in the trade.
  5. Build and maintain industry connections.
  6. Develop intentional learning objective goals that are structured into the experience and supervised by a professional with relevant and related background in the field of Engineering Technology.
  7. Balance learning goals with business needs.
  8. Build both industry-related knowledge and soft skills.
