The content of the course covers areas of smart grid infrastructure, security, and networking. It also focuses on the edge cutting integration and modernization of the current antiquated electrical grid system.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Understand and communicate using Smart Grid acronyms and terminology.
- Describe the major challenges of the aging grid infrastructure and the industry priorities. The student will also gain an understanding of the large number of employment opportunities that lay ahead.
- Explain the significance of Demand Side Energy Management and understand the implications on the consumers, transmission/distribution and on generation.
- Understand and discuss the technical challenges of Demand Side Energy Development.
- Discuss the important part that Microgrids will play in the transformation of the Electric Grid System.
- Have a broader understanding of the part Smart Grid will play in Wind and Solar.
- Understand the importance that smart grid technology will play toward the Electric Vehicles environment.
- Explain the usefulness of wireless sensors and harvesting wireless sensor networks.
- Describe Zigbee based wireless monitoring and control systems for the smart grid applications.
