Provides experience in recognizing and producing speech patterns of American English. Allows for conversational practice relating to academic and cultural subjects, with an emphasis on critical thinking skills expressed verbally. Gives the student ample exposure to language use from sources both in and out of the classroom. Presents language tasks requiring problem solving through the use of interpersonal communications.
Advanced level following intermediate levels.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Solve problems in a real cultural context using collaborative communication with other speakers.
- Understand the content and communicative ideas from texts and internet sources.
- Comprehend and apply stress accurately for words and sentences.
- Recognize and demonstrate comfort using English rhythm and intonation contours.
- Demonstrate understanding of the full content of an academic lecture while taking notes on its content and responding to test items.
