Focuses on techniques of written communication for the analysis and elaboration of academic material through paragraph and essay writing. Emphasizes the strategies of the writing process through rhetorical modes of composition for varied purposes. Stresses the extended use of syntax and structure for thoroughly coherent expression.
Advanced level following intermediate levels.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to: - Apply the writing process in all its stages to produce effectively written compositions.
- Employ strategies of revision and editing through self-analysis and peer collaboration.
- Apply various organizational strategies to write effectively.
- Use transitional devices for unified and coherent expression of ideas.
- Write thesis-based essays that incorporate all elements of rhetorical development.
- Incorporate closed-research sources using APA or MLA styles.
- Develop strategies for writing in impersonal 3rd person for academic purposes.
- Articulate and demonstrate understanding of academic plagiarism.
