Examination of kinetic and kinematic concepts involved in the analysis of functional movements and sport techniques. Topics include projectile motion, Newton’s laws, center of gravity, mechanical energy, and more, as applied to movements of the human body.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Summarize the mechanical aspects of human motion.
- Draw on anatomy, physiology, mathematics and physics to solve quantitative problems relating to human motion.
- Discuss basic biomechanical concepts related to functional and sport movements.
- Use physical laws of motion to analyze human motion and performance and solve problems of human motion.
- Evaluate the relationship between mechanical properties and anatomical functions.
- Describe how biomechanical principles can be applied to examine human activities.
- Apply biomechanical techniques to analyze specific sport-related movement.
