HOSP 271 - Mechanics of Meeting Planning

An in-depth examination of the meetings and conventions industry, this class will focus on the operational aspects of the various industry segments and the intra-industry interactions of each. The course will provide an in-depth study and application of the techniques used for successful meetings, conventions and expositions including sustainability and ethics. 

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Identify Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), ethics, sustainability of development and frameworks.
  2. Identify major industry segments and discuss intra-industry interaction including environmental sciences.
  3. Identify and explain best financial management practices.
  4. Identify and demonstrate corporate social responsibility in marketing, promotion, and public relations.
  5. Identify and demonstrate sustainable supply chains, measurement, and evaluation of event markets.
  6. Identify risk management and legal consideration for events and meetings.
  7. Present a plan for a major event including budget, site selection, housing and transportation, communications, food and beverage arrangements, marketing and promotion, staffing, and legal considerations.
