Familiarizes students to the aspect of community service and civic responsibility. The learner will understand the dynamics of how service to one’s community can be beneficial to the receiver of services as well as the provider. We will explore different agencies and how services are provided to their clients. The class will culminate with the completion of a service project allowing for the student to gain practical experience in their specialty.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:- Demonstrate safe practices in all projects and procedures.
- Describe his or her personal philosophy on service to one’s community.
- Describe how services agencies operate to provide services to the community.
- Demonstrate the procedure to be able to plan and organize a service project.
- Describe methods used in the acquisition of materials and tools for service projects.
- Demonstrate the ability to document time, material, and resources for service projects.
- Describe knowledge gained in this course on service learning by comparing before and after attitude in a reflection paper.
