INDT 107 - Preventative Maintenance PROGRAM: Industrial Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
Introduces the major purpose of preventive maintenance: to save time and to cut costs. The course will study goals such as, reducing losses, improving product quality, boosting production efficiency, and increasing profits. Includes an introduction to sound planning, effective scheduling, competent inspection, control and actions at the worksite, and follow-up reporting. Lab projects will be designed to organize materials, tool control, transportation of equipment, sizing up labor requirements.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- List the six functions of a typical PM program. [b]
- List the major benefits of PM. [b]
- Explain the use of a priority system. [b]
- Distinguish between preventive and predictive maintenance. [b]
- Explain the preparation of inspection checklists. [f]
- Describe the importance of scheduling to the maintenance program. [b]
- Explain the uses of forecasting and long-range planning. [i]
- Describe the techniques for controlling emergency, scheduled, unscheduled, and preventive maintenance work. [b,e]
- List short cuts for obtaining spare parts and other materials that are often used in routine repairs. [a]
- Describe the supervisor’s role at the worksite in terms of labor control, accident prevention, and quality control. [a.c]
- Explain the role of quality control. [a]
- Describe the steps involved in evaluating a completed job. [h]
