INDT 206 - Programmable Automation Controls II PREREQUISITES/COREQUISITE: INDT 205 - Programmable Automation Controls I .
PROGRAM: Industrial Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall 2025
Reviews and builds upon the content in INDT 205 Programmable Automation Controllers I. Introduces master control reset, subroutines, math/compare functions, analog inputs and outputs - configuration & applications, network driver configuration/transfer/point to point, HMI basics & applications, and further sequencer content with examples and troubleshooting. This course will use lecture, lab, online simulation and programming to further prepare students with additional knowledge of PLCs for working in the field as an installation and troubleshooting PLC technician. In addition, students will attempt certification assessment through SACA, Smart Automation Certification Alliance.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Design PLC programs using logical operators. [a,f]
- Design and development of PLC programs using MCR (Master Control Reset), JMP and subroutines [a,b]
- Design and development of PLC programs using MATH & COMPARE instructions. [a,e]
- Develop PLC programs using Sequencers / Sequence logic. [b,e]
- Demonstrate an ability to troubleshoot PLC controlled equipment.
- Differentiate between various types of input and output modules based on their characteristics and explain how each type functions within a control system. [a]
- Design & configure analog signals to/from the PLC. [a]
- Demonstrate ability to read and interpret technical documents. [b, e]
- Demonstrate ability to use various types of software applicable to course. [a]
- Design/develop and install basic HMI programs [a,f]
- Recall fundamental content to meet/exceed the cut-score for the SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) SACA C-207 Programmable Controller Systems 1- Silver Certification. [h]
- Demonstrate skills to obtain the SACA C-207 Programmable Controller Systems 1 - Gold Certification at a 100% of skill standard. [a, i]
