Covers the construction and operation of centrifugal, reciprocating, metering, special, and rotary pumps and their components. Includes procedures of troubleshooting, installation and maintenance.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Explain the history of pumps using examples of past technology compared to present technology. [a,f]
- Explain the principles of hydraulics (fluid mechanics) using Pascal’s Law. [f]
- Describe the function and operation of centrifugal, rotary, reciprocating, metering, and special pumps. [b,c]
- Explain the differences in pump seal designs and their uses. [b,c]
- Demonstrate how to pack a pump and to install a mechanical seal. [b,c]
- Demonstrate the proper techniques used in the disassembly and assembly of a pump. [b,e]
- Explain how to evaluate the condition of a pump. [b,e]
- Describe the steps and procedures used to install a pump. [b,c]
