INDT 213 - Pipe Fitting Basics

Acquaints the maintenance technician with a basic foundation and pipe fitting skills necessary to make repairs or layout new pipe. Includes determination of the type and quantity of material needed to complete a task and joining those materials in the proper manner with a minimum of supervision.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Use safe job operating skills. [c]
- Interpret piping and instrument tubing drawing. [f]
- Determine the necessary materials for an assigned task. [e]
- Demonstrate the basic skills required to cut and join pipe, including threading pipe, soldering and brazing. [b,e]
- Explain the use of the basic types of valves and their usage and be able to repair them. [b,e]
- Make and replace gaskets and understand their various applications. [b,e]
- Describe how sprinkler systems are constructed and expected to work. [f]
- Repair, maintain, and replace plant air distribution systems. [b,e]
- Specify the different types of pipe so that it can be purchased. [e]
- Develop basic skills to install tubing and fittings for hydraulics and pneumatics. [e]
- Demonstrate techniques for hot taping steel pipe. [e]
