INDT 227 - Problem Solving Strategies in the Workplace PREREQUISITES: Program Chair Approval. PROGRAM: Industrial Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall, 2019
Students will develop their critical thinking and teamwork skills, collect and analyze data, implement and maintain change, and utilize problem solving and decision making techniques as they apply to the workplace. This course is designed to reinforce and apply the knowledge and skills learned in previous technical courses and increase awareness of team and individual skills through experiments, case studies, problem solving projects, and a project presentation.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Implement critical thinking, problem analysis and decision-making techniques and how they might be influenced by cultural and individual differences. [a, c, e, f, h, i]
- Select the correct problem solving/decision making technique based on the presented problem. [e]
- Discuss why identifying and defining a problem is a crucial step in any problem solving method. [e, f]
- Discuss why it is necessary to be familiar with several problem-solving methods since not all problems fit a single problem-solving method well. [e, f, h, i]
- Using available resources, conduct research to obtain information on a resolution to a workplace problem. [a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i]
- Create and deliver solutions to workplace problem-solving projects using prior experiences and new strategies acquired. [a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i]
- Exercise both individual and team skills in completing assigned tasks in a professional and ethical manner. [a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i]
- Demonstrate ability to read and interpret technical documents. [b, e]
