MATH 222 - Calculus for Technology II

Second course in a two-semester sequence in the techniques of calculus, with an emphasis on how they are applied to technology. Topics include the calculus of transcendental functions, techniques of integration, differential equations, infinite series, and applications of these concepts.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Review trigonometric functions and their derivatives.
  2. Find and use derivatives of exponential and logarithmic functions.
  3. Solve applied problems using exponential and logarithmic functions.
  4. Evaluate integrals involving exponential and logarithmic forms.
  5. Evaluate integrals involving trigonometric functions.
  6. Evaluate integrals using integration by parts.
  7. Evaluate integrals of rational functions by partial fraction decomposition.
  8. Determine if infinite series converge and find sums of sequences and series.
  9. Find Maclaurin series expansions of various functions.
  10. Manipulate and perform computations with Maclaurin and Taylor series.
  11. Manipulate and perform computations with Fourier series.
  12. Solve first-order separable or linear differential equations.
  13. Solve higher-order differential equations, including homogeneous and nonhomogeneous equations.
  14. Solve applied problems involving differential equations.
  15. Find Laplace and inverse Laplace transforms, and use Laplace transforms to solve differential equations.
