MTTC 106 - Print Interpretation PROGRAM: Machine Tool Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 3 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall 2024
The course applies mathematics in solving engineering and design related problems in the areas of die design, fabrication, assembly, special machinery, die casting and molds. Introduces Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Indicate dimensions and tolerances related to fasteners and joining requirements. (f)
- Understand detail and assembly drawings. (b)
- Demonstrate skills in multi-view drawings required for manufacture and repair of machinery. (a,b,e)
- Discuss detail drawings involving multi-view projections, sectional views, auxiliary views, dimensioning subassemblies, and isometric illustrations. (b,f)
- Develop and use mathematical formulas to compute coordinates and solve machining-related problems. (e)
- Apply tolerances, limits, and fits to meet manufacturing requirements. (a,e)
- Read prints, interpret drawings, and understand engineering specifications. (b)
- Think critically and independently, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate technical problems and information. (e)
- Solve problems and make decisions using formal process methods. (e)
- Solve mathematical problems related to engineering drawings. (e)
- Verbally describe and interpret data obtained from prints. (b,f)

COURSE CONTENT: Topical areas of study include -
- Use basic GD&T to solve design problems in the areas of die design, fabrication, assembly, special machinery, die casting, and molds.
- Accumulation of tolerances, allowances, dimensioning methods and systems.
- Threads, forms, function, computations and measurement.
- Part dimensioning, inspection, computations, formulas.
- Introductory GD&T applications.
- Machining symbols and usage.
