MTTC 110 - Turning and Milling Processes

Provides shop safety, industrial terminology and laboratory experiences on conventional lathe and milling machines.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Demonstrate applications of machining speeds and feeds. (a)
  2. Interpret detail and assembly drawings of tooling and related components. (b)
  3. Interpret engineering data presented in graphs or charts, algebraic expressions, and proportional relationships. (b,e)
  4. Demonstrate the correct use of basic hand tools, special accessories, and required testing equipment. (a)
  5. Perform routine preventative maintenance procedures. (i)
  6. Develop and utilize mathematical formulas to compute coordinates and solve lathe and milling machine related problems. (e)
  7. Apply basic knowledge of physics-mechanics to lathe and mill problems. (e)
  8. Apply tolerance limits and fits to meet lathe and mill machine tooling problems. (a)
  9. Identify and demonstrate correct setup and operation of tooling applications for the conventional engine lathe and mill. (a)
  10. Think critically and independently analyze, synthesize, and evaluate technical problems and information. (i)
