MTTC 235 - 5 Axis CNC Milling


PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 0XX and MATH 0XX and MTTC 208 - CNC Mill Programming .

Expands on MTTC 208 - CNC Mill Programming , providing further study in computer-aided numerical control programming. Focuses on canned cycles, loops, thread cycles, drilling, and pocket milling cycles. Introduces Conversational Programming software and 5 axis machine set-ups.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Define linear and circular interpolation in a 5-axis coordinate plane. (a,f)
  2. Demonstrate effective use of simple and multiple repetitive canned cycles, and milling patterns. (a)
  3. Develop skills in writing NC, and Conversational programs using cam software. (a)
  4. Demonstrate ability to set and edit geometry and tool radius offsets. (a)
  5. Demonstrate ability to edit CNC programs on PC and Control Panel. (a)
  6. Operate PC for uploading and downloading of programs. (a)
  7. Perform all necessary tasks to complete part from print. (a,b)
  8. Demonstrate ability to utilize appropriate sub-programming techniques. (a)
  9. 5 axis machine set-up, including tool set-up, manual indicating of axes, and probing techniques. (a)
