Technology and applications of electronics for precision agriculture. Characteristics of personal computer hardware, electronic sensors, monitors, machine controllers, environmental monitors, and global positioning systems. Production management information systems’ processing and marketing information systems; and yield mapping, geographic information systems data handling, and software options.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Describe the basic purpose and concepts of precision agriculture.
  2. Determine basic principles of the various tools of precision agriculture including GPS, GIS and VRT.
  3. Recognize the use of these tools to collect data, analyze data and use the information to make a decision.
  4. Describe justifications that demonstrate the economic or environmental benefits of precision agriculture.
