The legal, moral and ethical responsibilities of the health care professional are introduced. An overview of the Emergency Medical Services System and its components and their relationships is presented. The essential principles of the standard of care, medical liability, areas of potential medical liability and medical liability protection are introduced. An overview of stress, reactions to stress, anxiety, paramedic job stress and dealing with death and dying is discussed. The essentials of pathophysiology and how the understanding of disease processes will improve upon the level of care provided by the paramedic are explained.
