POLS 201 - Introduction to Political Science
PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 093 - Introduction to College Writing and ENGL 083 - Reading Strategies for College or ENGL 095 - Integrated Reading and Writing , or ENGL 075 - Co-Requisite Integrated Reading .

Introduces students to the basic principles of political science, government and its institutions, international relations, political philosophy, and political theory. Emphasis on the impact of economy, culture, history, and environment on political behavior/events.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Define and use the language of government institutions in appropriate contexts.
- Summarize origins, justifications, limits, functions, and processes of government.
- Compare political ideologies, based on historical data and current research.
- Analyze international relations in terms of key organizations and concepts.
- Describe political transitions and cogently synthesize their underlying causes.
- Describe major political philosophers/theorists and define their contributions to the field.
- Relate economic, cultural, and environmental decision-making to political behavior/events.
