This course will introduce the student to the use of teams in the organization to achieve the goals of quality. Various types of teams will be examined by the student. Team dynamics, roles and responsibilities, conflict resolution and decision making will be studied.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Understand and distinguish between employee involvement and employee empowerment.
- Apply team problem solving techniques and describe when, where, how and why teams can be used effectively.
- Apply effective use of various types of teams: process teams, continuous improvement teams, workgroups, self-management teams, ad hoc project teams and virtual teams.
- Understand how a team’s efforts can support an organizations key strategies and effect positive change throughout an organization.
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of various team stakeholders: (Sponsor, Champion, Facilitator, Leader, Member, Scribe, Timekeeper).
- Apply the elements of launching and sustaining a successful team.
- Describe how to select team members based on knowledge, skill sets, and team logistics to support the size and scope of a project.
- Describe the stages of team development: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning.
- Identify the value of team conflict and how to resolve it.
- Describe the use of different decision-making models, such as voting majority rules, multi-voting, and consensus.
- Demonstrate ability to read and interpret technical documents. [b,e]
- Demonstrate ability to use various types of software applicable to course. [a]
