Provides an essential foundation of web development skills using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and JavaScript. Students will develop well-designed, responsive web pages while adhering to industry best practices and standards, without reliance on WYSIWYG software.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Apply essential semantic and logical elements of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to develop web content.
- Design wireframes for a variety of viewports (including mobile and desktop) and develop valid responsive HTML and CSS code based on those wireframes.
- Develop Web content that meets industry requirements for accessibility.
- Exemplify the “Mobile First” and “Responsive Web Design” (RWD) approaches to Web development.
- Identify essential ethical and legal issues in developing and maintaining a Website.
- Summarize current techniques to improve search engine rankings and enhance the marketing of a Web site.
- Use JavaScript to update the Document Object Model (DOM) and perform form validation.
- Explain how HTTP messages are used to exchange data between a server and a client.
- Discuss secure programming techniques to ensure the protection of user data and mitigate potential vulnerabilities.
