The continuation of Wind Turbine Mechanical System I. This course will cover the interaction of the wind turbine systems with technologies such as [mechanical] transmission, power generation, and power transmission systems.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Differentiate corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance (E,D,F).
  2. Describe machinery lifecycles (E).
  3. Describe the importance of shaft alignment (I,E).
  4. Differentiate between shaft axes for alignment.
  5. Perform mechanical shaft alignment (E).
  6. Perform laser shaft alignment (E,D,I).
  7. Explain the importance of vibration analysis (E,F).
  8. Perform a capture of a vibration signature (E,D,I).
  9. Analyze a vibration signature against a control (F,D).
  10. Explain the purpose of temperature control on moving parts (E).
  11. Apply thermodynamic laws to temperature management.
  12. Model a wind turbine coolant system (E).
  13. Troubleshoot temperature sensors (E).
  14. Explain the mechanisms through which SCADA interacts with wind turbine mechanical systems (E,F).
  15. Use SCADA software to identify wind turbine system mechanical failures(C,I).
