TMAS 175 - Fundamentals of Chair Massage PREREQUISITES: TMAS 120 - Therapeutic Massage Training I PROGRAM: Therapeutic Massage CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 1 LAB HOURS MIN: 4 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall, 2018
This course instructs the student in the fundamental techniques of chair massage and marketing chair massage events for promoting a massage practice. The student will develop a basic routine for chair massage as well as learn to adapt to specific clients and situations. Additional techniques will prepare the student to address common problem areas such as iliotibial band and lumbar pain.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student, through lecture, laboratory and outside activities, will be expected to:
- Develop and perform a chair massage routine.
- Assess client needs and contraindications.
- Demonstrate safe techniques and body mechanics.
- Create business forms needed to promote a chair massage business.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of ethical principles.
- Practice professionalism.
- Develop a marketing plan.
- Plan and complete a marketing event.
