TMAS 225 - Advanced Techniques

This course is structured to provide the student with advanced training and clinical reasoning, focusing on client goals and assessment findings, and applications of various techniques through a case study. Analytical research of conditions and appropriate application to the client’s case will be conducted and reflected in documentation of case study. This course includes thorough client assessment techniques and is designed to expand the therapist into the medical field. The relationship of various illnesses and conditions to massage is discussed.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Develop a safe and effective initial session and on-going treatment plan, based on client goals, assessment findings, and understanding of effects of massage and bodywork (E 1.7 I)
  2. Explain the value of research to the profession (E 6.3 I)
  3. Identify sources of published research literature on therapeutic massage and bodywork (E 6.3 II)
  4. Critically read and evaluate a published research article in the field of massage therapy and bodywork (E 6.3 III)
  5. Research and evaluate conditions as they pertain to case studies.
  6. Demonstrate advanced client assessment techniques.
  7. Explore massage applications for specific conditions (i.e. carpal tunnel, frozen shoulder, etc.).
