TRCK 127 - Heavy Truck Engine Repair

Studies precision tools, equipment, and procedures needed to repair modern diesel engines. Repair, proper assembly, and component identification are studied along with service of removable cylinder liners.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Demonstrate proper shop safety practices while overhauling and repairing engines. (a)
  2. Identify tools and equipment used in engine repair. (b)
  3. Inspect and determine serviceability of cylinder head according to manufacturer specifications. (e,f)
  4. Inspect and determine serviceability of cylinder block according to recommended manufacturer specifications. (e,f)
  5. Adjust or measure valve and engine brake clearance. (b,e,f)
  6. Install camshaft according to manufacturer specifications. (e,f)
  7. Inspect and install connecting rods and pistons. (e,f)
  8. Measure the crankshaft and determine serviceability. (b,e,f)
  9. Diagnose and or repair of the oil lubrication system. (e,f)
  10. Install piston rings according to manufacturer specifications. (b,e,f)
  11. Inspect cooling system and components for needed repair. (b,e,f)
  12. Perform injector replacement procedures. (a,b,e,f)
