VIDT 113 - Film Appreciation
PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in ENGL 093 - Introduction to College Writing and or ENGL 083 - Reading Strategies for College , or ENGL 095 - Integrated Reading and Writing , or ENGL 075 - Co-Requisite Integrated Reading .

An introduction to understanding and appreciating movies and film. Students will analyze movies for narrative and storytelling properties, cinematography, acting, editing and sound design.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Understand the historical and cultural context for films.
- Define the types of movies.
- Identify the elements of narrative.
- Describe the process and elements of design.
- Critique a movies’ form and content.
- Explain the role of the Art Director, Production Designer, Director of Photography, cinematographer, editor, sound engineer, and the writer.
- Analyze and evaluate a movie’s cinematography, performance, editing, sound and writing components.
- Participate in critical film discussion.
- Produce critical analysis and journalistic reviews.
