VISC 201 - Raster Graphics II

Further examines raster-based editing using Adobe Photoshop. Experience with the digital imaging environment includes calibrating scanning processes, digital camera input, manipulating images in black and white and color, working with retouching for advertising, illustrating text, and working with various output devices. Digital color spaces as they relate to various output devices will be covered. Calibration for 4-color separations and pre-press procedures will be discussed as well as preparing images properly for the web.
REQUIRED SOFTWARE:
This class makes use of industry-standard Adobe software. Students will NOT be able to complete the coursework without the use of Adobe software. Only students enrolled in Visual Communications courses that use Adobe software have been assigned an Adobe license. Not all students will have the ability to access Adobe software at home. All Visual Communications labs are outfitted with the latest Adobe software. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Please note that not every computer can run Adobe software. Verify your system can operate Adobe applications through the Adobe System Requirements website. We highly recommend computers with an Intel core processor, 64-bit support, 8GB of memory (16GB preferred), and a 250GB hard drive. All Visual Communications labs are outfitted with the minimum system requirements.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to: - Explore various imaging programs and perform advanced image manipulation techniques.
- Demonstrate the ability to acquire images from a variety of current input sources.
- Explain the differences between grayscale, RGB, CMYK, duotone, lab color spaces.
- Explain the difference between vector and raster graphics.
- Choose the correct image resolution for output devices.
- Successfully calibrate a monitor.
- Demonstrate ability to work with various advanced image selection methods.
- Demonstrate ability to work successfully with channels, layers, and paths.
- Successfully export clipping paths for page layout and transparent backgrounds for the web.
- Design using the painting, editing, fill and type tools.
- Successfully sharpen images using various methods.
- Successfully color correct images using various adjustment layers.
- Complete successful image manipulation using layer masking and recent composite methods.
- Explain the proper usage of f various digital image file formats.
- Successfully resize images using correct interpolation methods.
