Further examination of the principles of hydroponic and aquaponic systems and their application to business operations. Emphasis is placed on the advanced principles of mechanical application, production cycles, harvesting and marketing system grown products.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:

Describe the concept of fluid dynamics in a Controlled Environment Agruculture (CEA) system.

Troubleshoot CEA systems.

Explain production cycling and evaluate various production cycles

Examine water chemistry in detail.

Perform successful harvest of Plants/Fish in accordance with GAPS standards.

Identify local markets and evaluate the market’s ability to consume products.

Demonstrate the ability to create a dialogue with local customers.

Describe and classify packaging methods for fish and produce.
COURSE CONTENT: Topical areas of study include -
- Fluid media and dynamics in controlled environment systems
- Troubleshooting system failures
- Evaluate alternative production methods
- Determine which production cycle fits production and market needs
- Investigate the chemistry of micro nutrients
- Harvest both plants and fish using the GAPS method
- Examine current controlled environment systems production methods and markets
- Develop a marketing plan
- Prepare packaged product for sale.
